Mills Paper Company: Performance Management or Age Discrimination? Performance Appraisals Evaluation The Mills Paper Company hired John Carpenter at a fitting juncture of his professional career for the benefit of the Company, and to provide John the opportunity to utilize his extensive experience to present meaningful contributions as a controller. If John’s team contributions, aligned properly with the agreed performance objective, John and the company would have been rewarded. Exceeding individual performance objectives, aid the overall organization’s performance, which would normally result in advancements to professional careers under the correct performance measures methods. In addition to disciplinary actions, a performance appraisal measuring clear objective results, must contain constructive bidirectio nal feedback. John’s supervisor’s feedback required extra training objectives to aid John meet his performance objectives. It is evident the Mills Paper Company failed to provide thorough MBO training to their management staff because in several occasions, they opted to regroup John’s role while keeping him at the same salary. The Mills Paper Company management fell short on skill and authority to evaluate John, while also providing him the tools and resources available to aid in their common interest. Carpenter’s Termination We agree completely with Lance Amato’s observation that Carpenter should have been terminated earlier. â€Å"In the first quarter after he started work, Carpenter received a poor performance rating from his direct supervisor. At the time, several managers, including the president of Mills, expressed their disappointment and concern about Carpenter’s performance as division controller.
